Beijing is called Jing for short. It
is the capital of the People's Republic of China. Beijing is
a world famous old city with a glorious history. It is located
on the northwest edge of the Huabei Plain, and it is approximately
150 kilometers away from the Bohai Sea. It covers an area of
16,410 square kilometers. The whole total population is 14.927
milli on
people. There is the Jundu Mount on the north and the Xishan
Mount on the west, and the mountainous region occupies 62% of
the whole area. On the southeast is the plain that extends towards
the Bohai Sea, and it is a fluvial plain formed by such rivers
as the Yongding River, the Chaobaihe River and so on. In the
mountainous regions, there are many kinds of minerals like the
coal, iron and so on, as well as the fine building materials
like the granite, marble and so on.
Geographic landform: The Beijing center is located at 39
N and 116 E. It is majestically positioned at the most northern
part of the Huabei Plain. On the west, north and northeast
of Beijing, there are the mountains. On the southeast, there
is a plain that extends towards the Bohai Sea. The Beijing
Plain height above sea level is 20~60 meters, the mountainous
region generally has an elevation of 1000~1500 meters. On
its boundary with Hebei Province, there is the Dongling Mount
with an elevation of 2,303 meters, and it is the highest point
of Beijing. Five big rivers run through Beijing, mainly including
the Chaobaihe River and the North Canal on the east, and the
Yongding River and the Juma River on the west. Beijing's topography
is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. On the
west is the Xishan Mount, the extension of the Mount Taihang,
on the north is the Jundu Mount of the Yanshan Mount, and
the two mountains are connected at the Nankougujan and form
a semicircle mountain curve opened to the southeast. People
call it "Beijing Curve", and the small plain inside
it is called the Beijing Small Plain. Generally, Beijing depends
on the mountains and faces the sea, and the landform is grand.
Just as the ancients said: "Youzhou, with the Bohai Sea
to the east, the Taihang Mount to the west, the Juyong Pass
to the north, and the Heji River to the south, is really a
land of abundance".
Land area: Beijing has a total land area of 16,410 square
kilometers. Among them, The plain area is 6,338 square kilometers,
accounting for 38.6%; and the mountainous region area is 10,072
square kilometers, accounting for 61.4%. The urban area is
87.1 square kilometers.
Climate characteristic: Beijing's climate is the typical
semi-humid continental monsoon climate of warm temperate zone.
In the summer, it is hot and rainy; in the winter, it is cold
and dry; and the fall and spring are short. The annual mean
temperature is 10~12 ℃. In January, it is -7~-4 ℃; and in
July, it is 25~26 ℃. The extremely lowest is -27.4 ℃, and
the extremely highest is 42 ℃. The whole-year frost-free period
is 180~200 days, and in the western mountainous area, it is
shorter. The annual mean rainfall is more than 600 millimeters,
and it is one of the areas with the biggest rainfall in the
North China region. In the windward slope of mountain, the
rainfall may amount up to above 700 millimeters. The precipitation
season distribution is in non-uniformity, with 75% of whole-year
precipitation concentrated in the summer, and in July and
August, there are often the rainstorms. |
